The Henry Prince School Council, comprising elected children, decided they wanted buy new toys and games to use at playtime. To achieve this they decided to run a sponsored read for the whole school and hold a book sale. They managed to raise the fantastic sum of £365! The children chose to spend £359.98 on pedal go karts, prams, dolls, wooden tower building blocks and other outdoor games. The school ordered as instructed and their purchases have just arrived.
School governor Andrew Reay-Robinson said “I am very proud of the school council. They ran their own fund-raising events that raised £365. They were then very keen to spend the money fairly across all ages and classes as well as between boys and girls – at no point was there any arguing or selfishness. Well done to them all!”
The school council consists of two representatives from each class. They hold regular meetings with a teacher and two school governors. The meetings let pupils voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions which impact upon them.
