The Henry Prince C.E. First School are reminding parents about to choose their child’s school that they will be taking pupils into Year 5 September 2019.
After consulting with parents, the public and Staffordshire County Council earlier in the year, the governing body made the decision to take pupils into Year 5 from September 2019, and into Year 6 from September 2020.
From then the school will be known as The Henry Prince C.E. (C) Primary School & Nursery.
The school is now looking forward to attracting pupils who might otherwise choose other local primary schools rather than attend a first school.
As well as becoming a primary school, staff are liaising Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Ashbourne and hoping that their pupils will be able to attend QEGS at the end of Year 6.
The new wrap around care provision, in conjunction with The Mulberry Bush and Ashbourne Community Transport, is also working well.
Head Teacher Mrs J Naylor said: “We’re really excited to become a primary school, and as an Ofsted-rated ‘good’ school, we want to encourage as many parents as possible to see what we have to offer. We place great emphasis on our relationship with the children, and combine academic achievement with a nurturing environment.
“All schools get funding from the government based on pupil numbers, so the more pupils we have, the more sustainable we are in the future. It’s a really exciting time for our school, and we really hope that local parents will join us in 2019 as we begin a new chapter for Henry Prince.”

Primary school applications open on November 1. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2019.
